The Greatest Among Us!

Reading Assignment: Matthew Chapters 19-21

Matthew 20:26,27 Jesus encountered the mother of James and John, who asked a most peculiar question, "can my boys sit on your right and left hand when they get to Heaven? People are always trying to get a leg up on what they perceive as their competition. In the Kingdom of God, there is no competition. We are all in this thing together and nobody has a "favored person" status with God.

Jesus answer was equally shocking. He said that the one who is the servant of all, would be the greatest of all. The opposite holds true in the minds of most believers, who consistently jockey for positions of prominence, to be considered a VIP in the church or group they are a member of. In the eyes of God, we are all the same and it is outside the character of God for us to bite and devour one another, in an attempt to be on the list of movers and shakers in the local church body.

What an out of the box concept, "greatest shall be the servant of all!" We spend our lives trying to be the leader, captain, boss, manager, head huncho, quarterback, etc. God wants us to spend our time serving others and being a blessing to the world. Selfishness has no place in the Body of Christ. We serve a God who demonstrated the epitome of Selflessness in that He gave the gift of His Only Son, to die for a world that had no appreciation for Him at all. (John 3:16)

When the love of God becomes the beat of our hearts, serving and giving to others becomes our regular way of life!

Faith Confession: Father I make a quality decision that today will be a Selfless day. I will give of myself to bring blessing and favor into the lives of others. I hide myself behind the cross of Jesus Christ so that only you can be seen and glorified in my life, in Jesus' name, Amen!
