The Shame of Addiction

After many years of ministry to people with various addictions, I am keenly aware that addiction doesn't discriminate based on race, economic status, family pedigree or education level, just to name a few. It is an equal opportunity enslaver. It doesn't care who's life is ruined.

Addiction is a normal way of life for many people. What hooks one person hardly affects another.  Some people can tolerate stuff that others have no tolerance level for at all.  Addiction is overpowering to the person, no matter which type of bondage it is. No matter the type of addiction, it is still the product of the devil, the one who wants to destroy you and everything about you.

John 10:10  "The thief only comes to steal, kill and destroy..."

No one addict has the upper hand and bragging rights over another one, because being a slave to addiction leaves everyone in the same condition, very ashamed.

The shame of addiction is just as powerful as the addiction itself.  You can get over the addiction and yet hold on to the shame of your past.  No matter what you have to put behind you, let it go NOW.  You are doing yourself no favors by living out a life of shame for something that has been buried in the sea of forgetfulness, never to rise again.  LET IT GO!
