Let me tell you a story of a young lady who found herself with child at a younger than expected age in her life. She didn't run from the challenge that lay ahead, but she persevered through the persecution, gossip and the not so nice people who at that time in our history, didn't celebrate the type of predicament she found herself in.
You see, at that time, girls were frowned upon and most found themselves alone to handle the responsibilities and pressures of child rearing, without the assistance of the young man who collaborated in this embarassing circumstance.
She took on the challenge, with the assistance of her family and friends who understood that enormity of her future path. She worked multiple jobs each day (talk about multi-tasking), without hardly complaining about the situation in which she found herself.
But with strong determination, she would proved wrong, all those who doubted her future success. She worked hard to raise 3 children alone, until the day she met the Man who would be her Husband for 30+ years and still counting, Mr. Clennon Preston!
She did her best with what she knew and what she had! Her children are forever the better and grateful that she brought them into the world and raised them to be the productive citizens in our society that they turned out to be.
Who is this Lady? She is my Mother, Mrs. Willie Mae Preston! She is the Lady who gave me life and raised me to be the Man I became. She did it the Old School way, with the Rod and the Word and I am thankful that she did... She Drove the Bible into us and Beat the Devil out of us. We knew we were loved!
As I celebrated my 46th Birthday on 11-11-11, I begin to reflect on the things that I put her through as a young man.
She was long-suffering with a Stubborn, Hard Headed, Rebellious, Disobedient, Sneaky, Lying, Mean, Back-Talking, Arrogant, Know-It-All, little Black Boy, but God gave her the strength to endure the journey. It took me a whole lot of years to mature to understand that nobody has a perfect life and situation and our Parents do the best they can with what they know and have!
I thank God for You Mother and I Love You with all my Heart!
Today I Honor You as so many people Honored Me yesterday, to commemorate the Day that You brought me into this world. Without You, there would be no Me!
For all the hundreds of people who so graciously give Honor to me as their Man of God, you must always remember to Honor the One who made this all possible, My Mother!
Thanks for not Aborting me and never giving up on me. Through it all, You did a Fantastic Job!
Your Oldest Child,
Torry

ReplyDeleteYes sir. Even though my mother passed away around the time I was nine years old, GOD has given me great dad who played the role of father and mother, and many mother figures through my relatives and through HIS Church. I encourage you in your walk with GOD, keep on striving, keep on surviving, you have no idea of how your relationship with GOD has flowed over on me, my house, my family, and friends. I will let GOD show you what HE is doing through you. I will follow you as you follow Jesus.
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful.
