Reading Assignment: Joshua 7 - 9
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me… I go to prepare a place for you…” (John 14:1-3).
First we find in this passage a loving admonition. Jesus knew that trouble is part of life, but a troubled heart dishonors God. Specifically Jesus is preparing his disciples for what is coming — he will be crucified and they will pass through great sorrow.
But then we see a needed direction. He directs them to faith. You believe in God, you are to believe in Jesus and find comfort in him.
Finally we see a comforting promise. “I go to prepare a place for you,” and “where I am there you will be also.” Because of the many promises the Lord has given us, when trouble comes we need not have a troubled heart.
