Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. (Acts 12:5) From a tragic and painful time in early church history, we discover a very valuable lesson for the believer.
James had just been martyred by Herod and Peter was in prison awaiting execution, the saints of God engage in unceasing intercession on his behalf.
My mind can't get passed the thought, "how much did they pray for him before he was in trouble? How much of their time had been focused and devoted to prayer before the pressure was on?" Every student of Church history knows that the more suffering is inflicted, the more pressure is exerted upon the church, the closer we grow to God and to each other.
It is sad that Christians so easily divide over petty issues. We are oversensitive to criticism and correction; offenses are often obstacles to fellowship and we just don't care until the "Prayer 911" call goes out for someone in the church.
Doubtless James and Peter (who was always putting his foot in his mouth) had at times said or done some things that were disagreeable to others in the church. But those offenses are forgotten now that the church hears of James' death and Peter's impending execution.Brothers and sisters, don't wait until persecution, or loss, or pain comes in order to love each other fervently. Look over faults; forgive wrongs; let go of past grievances. Love, and pray for, each other now!
Faith Confession: Father I choose to pray for others each time they are on my heart and I refuse to allow offense to hinder my love walk, in Jesus' Name, Amen!
Awesome!
